Synopsis

Jack Cyrus is in damnation! After witnessing the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, he has become plagued by dark memories and devilish visions, the result of post traumatic stress. Compounding his trauma, he is faced with the sudden death of his wife, from cancer, after returning home to Scotland. Lost and alone, and struggling to forget the horrific circumstances surrounding her passing, Jack has developed schizophrenia, experiencing chaotic, disturbed thoughts and demonic hallucinations.

On the sixth anniversary of his wife’s death, Jack receives a cryptic, hand written letter from her, telling him she is still alive. Suffering and held captive, she pleads with him to return to Darkview, the place she spent her last days, and rescue her from purgatory. Upon arrival in Darkview, strange things start happening, and what appears to be a centuries old mystery, starts unravelling itself. Jack must piece together the clues and lost fragments of his sanity to solve the unravelling mystery. Is any of it real, or is it just a manifestation of Jack's mind, or another facet of his schizophrenia?

Author bio

R.J. Bathgate, born and bred in Scotland, is the creator and co-author of Darkview: Psychosis. A father of two, and enormously proud of his heritage, he has studied psychology, social sciences, and is currently working towards an advanced diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling and hypnotherapy. His heart lies with new experiences and an interest into the unknown, particularly with writing. He has travelled the world from the dusty, wildlife-filled plains of Zambia, to the glaciers of Alaska, and the soaring peaks of the Canadian Rockies. He is extremely fond of NHL ice hockey, video games, good films, fine wine, and Jack Daniels. He originally wrote Darkview as a screenplay when living in Canada, but upon returning to Scotland, researched mental health issues, namely psychosis and schizophrenia. Inspired by this research, he brought in his lifelong friend, M.J. Hall, to help create a more realistic take on Darkview. The result is a story that combines traditional Scottish history with real life, catastrophic world events, told through the eyes of the protagonist, Jack Cyrus.

M.J. Hall was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, at the turn of the eighties. Despite being born in England, he identifies more with his ‘adopted’ country, Scotland – he’s lived there since he was four, and his late maternal grandfather was Scottish, too. He presently lives in Edinburgh and is currently studying Environmental Science at the Open University, but has always dreamed of a career in music or writing, or both. He is vegetarian, loves animals (especially cats) and is devoted to his black and white moggy, Tahlula. He humbly admits being just a small voice in a big chorus, and his life changed for the better, or at least would never be the same, when his lifelong and best friend – R.J. Bathgate – invited him to collaborate on Darkview.

Book Tour: Traveling Left of Center by Nancy Christie

About the Book

Title: Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories
Author: Nancy Christie
Genre: Literary Fiction / Short Story Collection
There are some people who, whether by accident or design, find themselves traveling left of center. Unable or unwilling to seize control over their lives, they allow fate to dictate the path they take—often with disastrous results.
TRAVELING LEFT OF CENTER AND OTHER STORIES details characters in life situations for which they are emotionally or mentally unprepared. Their methods of coping range from the passive (“The Healer”) and the aggressive (“The Clock”) to the humorous (“Traveling Left of Center”) and hopeful (“Skating on Thin Ice”).
The eighteen stories in TRAVELING LEFT OF CENTER AND OTHER STORIES depict those types of situations, from the close calls to the disastrous. Not all the stories have happy endings—like life, sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t.
In these stories, the characters’ choices—or non-choices—are their own. But the outcomes may not be what they anticipated or desired.
Will they have time to correct their course or will they crash?

About Nancy Christie

Nancy Christie is the author of the fiction collection, Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories and two short story e-books, Annabelle and Alice in Wonderland (all published by Pixel Hall Press).
She is also the author of The Gifts of Change (Atria/Beyond Words), an inspirational book that encourages readers to take a closer look at how they deal with the inevitability of change and ways in which they can use change to gain a new perspective, re-evaluate their goals and reconsider their options. Since its publication in 2004, The Gifts of Change has been released in three foreign editions.
Currently Christie is working on several book projects, including a second collection, a novel and a book for writers. The founder of “Celebrate Short Fiction” Day, and member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and Short Fiction Writers Guild (SFWG), Christie hosts the monthly Monday Night Writers group in Canfield, OH.

The Lemurian Chronicles by Perry Morris is an epic fantasy that began in 2015 with the publication of Children of the Blessing.  Readers all over the world have been enthralled with the gripping tale of Renn and Avaris—two boys who were marked by the gods to become powerful magic users.  Chaos Rising, the eagerly anticipated second book of the Lemurian Chronicles, continues the exciting epic story.
Avaris travels into the heart of the Cragg Caves—the home of horrifying beasts, warlocks and demons—to rescue his sister and best friend from slave labor in the mines deep underground.  But getting out of the caves alive is only the beginning of his troubles as he is hunted by an army of evil magic users and blood thirsty beasts who have been given the assignment to kill him before he learns to fully use his powers.
Renn (Demaris) is studying at the castle on Elder Island under the watchful eye and protection of the lore masters.  But a traitor is in their midst who is being blackmailed by Shamael Daro, the new Grand Warlock, to carry out a single task—eliminate Renn.
Shamael’s power has increased significantly since taking on the mantle of Grand Warlock and he discovers the dark secret of how the most powerful Grand Warlock of all time, Nefarian Drakkas, nearly took total control of Lemuria more than two thousand years ago.  He uses this secret to create a group of soulless, magic using spies and killers to do his bidding.  His plan is simple; create chaos across the land so the dark forces of the Aven lore can destroy those who follow the gods of light once and for all.

He loves the unique and interesting magic systems Brandon creates, the memorable characters and interesting stories.Perry is an author every day for an hour during lunch. He actually began writing the Lemurian Chronicles in 1993, and after more than two decades of rewrites, editing, re-editing, etc... finally decided to “take the plunge” and publish his epic fantasy. “So, what are we doing today? Cardio? Weights? ” He started walking towards the locker rooms to change. A small jolt of anticipation raced through me imagining him all hot and sweaty, his arms bulging from the exertion of pushing weights. I bit down on my lip trailing my gaze down his muscular back to his firm arse. God, he had a fine backside.
He stopped suddenly and turned sharply causing me to stumble into him. His hands came up quickly and grabbed my arms, holding me firmly and preventing me from an embarrassing and ungainly arse plant on the floor.
“I think I might start swimming again,” he said, his eyes raking over my body.
Good God. The thought of his already athletic body showcased in a pair of speedo’s, with droplets of water dribbling down his lightly tanned chest had my pulse racing and my tongue begging to reach out for a taste.
It was difficult to decide which visual was better—Adam in swimwear, water droplets trickling down his body, raking a hand through his wet hair. Adam in workout gear, sweaty with muscles bulging and veins popping, and his sounds of exertion... Oh God. Or Adam in one of his hotter than sin suits.
“Are you okay, Cass? You’ve gone a bit pale.” A large palm pressed against my cheek and forehead. “You feel a bit clammy.” The hand moved to my neck. “And your pulse is racing.”
Suddenly, I was lifted off my feet, engulfed in strong arms as Adam carried me toward the private staff area.
Yanking myself from x-rated visions of Adam’s aquatic and other adventures, I shrieked, locking my hands behind his neck.
“What are you doing? I’m fine you nut. Put me down.” I laughed twisting my fingers into the overlong strands of his honey-blonde hair.
“I thought you were ill,” he muttered sliding me down his body, my feet still dangling off the floor. Our faces were now only inches apart, intimately close.
Stormy blue eyes met brown and held, the magnetism between them firm, unyielding. Under my touch his shoulders lifted and fell, his lungs sucking in a deep shuddering breath. A large knot of emotion lodged in my throat when I tried to swallow. For the longest moment, we stood mute, our eyes and the deafening silence communicating a barrage of thoughts and questions.
He shifted me in his arms, the movement jostling my chest against his. A shiver of need misted over my bared flesh as goose bumps, my nipples tightening beneath the cotton of my sports bra.
God, what was I doing? I shouldn't be lusting after Adam. He was my friend.
I untangled myself from his hold and dropped my feet to the floor. I took two steps back. “I’m fine,” I mumbled forcing myself to appear unaffected and meet his gaze.
Blinking several times, Adam took a moment to come back from the haze of whatever weird cosmic connection it was we’d just shared. A brief shake of his head and a swipe of fingers through his hair, he too took a step back further breaking the invisible threads that had been pulling us together.

Available for Pre-Order at Amazon

It’s been a while since I read my first love, Horror. When I saw an opportunity to read Silk by L.M. Pruitt, I jumped at the chance. The premise was intriguing and didn’t disappoint.

Ms. Pruitt has woven a dark and foreboding place in Silk, GA. The three main characters are Elias, Shepard and Isaiah, three friends who survived the Mulberry Massacre, but have suffered the wounds of trauma. They are complex and flawed in the best possible way. Despite their weaknesses, I really grew to love and hate them.

Pruitt has an easy style and weaves the darkness into a visual display. I couldn’t put the book down and had to find out what happened. I was extremely satisfied with the end, as well as the progression and growth of the characters, or lack thereof.

My only issue with this book is a need to be proofed. There are several instances where the word in the book is wrong. At first I thought it might be a local thing, but as the book went on I realized the words were similar but incorrect. Despite this issue, I was still enthralled and loved it. If you are looking for a dark, gritty read, this one is for you.

About the Author:

L.M. Pruitt has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. A native of Florida with a love of New Orleans, she has the uncanny ability to find humor in most things and would probably kill a plastic plant. She knows this because she's killed bamboo. Twice.  She is the author of the Winged series, the Plaisir Coupable series, Jude Magdalyn series, the Moon Rising series, and Taken: A Frankie Post Novel.
